OUR HISTORY

WHEN WE BEGAN WORKING ON THE IDEA OF STARTING A BREWERY, IT WAS A LONG SHOT TO SAY THE LEAST. SMALL, HYPER LOCAL PRODUCTION BREWERIES WERE A RARITY IN BC AT THE TIME AND OUR SURFY PRIORITIES HAD, IN NO WAY, PREPARED US FOR THE COMPLEX WORLD OF CRAFT BEER. BUT, ARMED WITH ZERO EXPERIENCE AND A COMICALLY SHOESTRING BUDGET, WE WENT FOR IT ANYWAY. TOFINO BREWING CO. OPENED IN APRIL 2011 WITH TWO BASIC IDEAS IN MIND: TO BREW GREAT BEER AND BE A POSITIVE ADDITION TO THE TOWN WE LOVED. OVER THE PAST DECADE PLUS, TOFINO BREWING HAS GROWN ORGANICALLY INTO THE LOCAL FIXTURE IT IS TODAY. WE ARE INCREDIBLY PROUD TO BE PART OF THE TOFINO EXPERIENCE FOR LOCALS AND VISITORS ALIKE AND HOPE TO CONTINUE TO BREW BEER FOR THE COMMUNITY FOR YEARS TO COME.

SUSTAINABILITY

HYDROELECTRIC POWER

Tofino Brewing Co. is powered entirely by hydroelectricity . We utilize this renewable energy source in all aspects of our brewery making our beer production carbon emission free.

ECO-RINGS

The ocean is incredibly important to us here. It is central to every aspect of life in Tofino. So, it has always been a major priority for us to eliminate single use plastics from our operations.Using biodegradable EcoRings for our cans was a no-brainer. They are made completely of agricultural fiber waste so we could ditch those plastic rings.

OCEAN FRIENDLY BUSINESS

Registered through the Surfrider Pacific Rim Chapter, we are doing our part to keep our beaches pristine for our fellow community members and generations to come.

LIVESTOCK FEED

Instead of discarding our spent grain, we work with local Vancouver Island farmers who use it as livestock feed. This creates a closed-loop recycling solution.

WATER RECOVERY
We have developed designated systems and equipment to recapture water used in the brewing process that allows us to reuse it in subsequent brews.

As a Gold Certified BC Green Business member, we undergo annual evaluations to track our sustainability progress and make continuous improvements towards our green goals. Through the program, we work to take climate action for the planet, the people, and the community.
